City/School District resident: 37 years in Garland, Texas

Community and Professional Group Involvement:

I have actively served on the Texas House Representative Angie Chen Button’s Education Roundtable for 3 years. This Roundtable supplies Representative Button with regular input and feedback for the Texas House for their Educational legislative considerations.

My participation with The Walnut Glen Academy Campus Improvement Team (CIT) has provided me knowledge about the plans and needs of individual schools within GISD.  By the way, Walnut Glen is a GISD elementary, which has been an exemplary school in Texas for 8 years, and was a National Blue Ribbon school in 2007 and 2014.

My former service on the Board on the Dallas Chapter of the Project Management Institute for over 5 years, assisted to develop and train 100s of Professional Project Managers in the Dallas Metroplex area.

I train and educate professionals and am a regular speaker for symposiums and conferences at UTD and for various professional organizations.

Currently, I serve as the Chief Judge for the voter elections in my precinct and am actively involved in my community Neighborhood Association.

My proactive board member service on the Grace Fellowship International Board in Dallas, Texas, has led our Board team with improved policy updates and financial procedures.

Qualifications for GISD Board Trustee Position:

My decades of experience in Fortune 500 organizations in Government Contracts,Technical Programs and Finance Management, provide me strong business knowledge and capabilities required for many of the GISD Board decisions.

I have been attending the GISD board meetings on a regular basis over the last 6 years and asking questions of educators, that has provided me a clear insight of the needs and requirements of GISD.

My wife, Jackie Davis, has been a teacher with GISD for 15 years, and her background being an advocate for students and educators has given me an up close insight to the needs facing public schools.

My interest is in quality education for all children in order to develop future leaders that contribute to the needs of our society. I desire to be an active participant on the GISD Board team to help set policy and make decisions for the best solutions to achieve and keep GISD as a top rated district.

Issues facing the GISD that will need to be addressed during the next five years:

Fiscal responsibility is a major concern. Funding requirements are crucial, especially with state funding losses in 2011.   The board must also plan for changing demographics, growth, and diversity in various areas of the community.  Changing and updating technology, as well as school facility upgrades are important to best meet student needs and requirements. Additional school security and safety upgrades are also being considered.

The Garland/GISD community should know:

I am a professional and knowledgeable leader with a servant spirit and passion for excellence to serve my community in the best possible way with best decisions and solutions to achieve the maximum results.

The most important part of serving on the GISD school board:

The most important part of serving on the school board is to be sure that you maintain a full commitment of time and quality decisions that will best represent Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse to improve student education, with quality teachers and curriculum, with all the required tools and facilities.

The best thing about GISD:

Garland ISD has a family feel to it with many of the educators coming from the families that live in the area for generations.  This sense of family strength and pride has made GISD a wonderful place to execute out next generation. GISD is committed to maintaining excellence in education throughout the District, including the specific needs of Garland, Rowlett and Sachse.

The thing that GISD residents need to be the most concerned:

We need to make sure that our children have a safe nurturing environment that encourages them to learn and be their best in order to become successful and contributing members of our society.
