THANKS FOR HIS INDESCRIBABLE GIFT

"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!" (II Cor. 9:15).

Paul shares how God has responded to our sowing, by causing us to reap in proportion to our sowing (II Cor. 9:6).  Our Father loves a cheerful and thankful giver (II Cor. 9:7).  Our Father has taken His marvelous grace and poured it out on us without measure, so that we will have sufficiency for everything we need, and an abundance to provide for the needs of others (II Cor. 9:8).  Thanks be to God for His marvelous grace!

Paul was able to thank God for all that He had done for the Corinthians (II Cor. 9:11). Paul also testified that God had made things abound even more through their many thanksgivings to God (II Cor. 9:12).  As Christians we need to allow Christ to live in us as us. The Christ-life expression in and through us is the living proof of the gospel of Christ to others, and is confirmation to Paul's message of the Christ-life message (II Cor. 9:13).  As Christians share the Christ-life with others, others will pray and become hungry for the truth and reality of Christ-life that they see demonstrated in you (II Cor. 9:14).  "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!" (II Cor. 9:15).

What is the indescribable gift?  The resounding answer will come back that the indescribable gift is Christ.  When you think about Christ and the magnitude of all that Christ is, certainly He is an indescribable gift.  Christ is wisdom and power of God (I Cor. 1:24).  Christ is also righteousness, sanctification, and redemption (I Cor. 1:30).  Christ is peace (Eph. 2:14). Christ is eternal life (I John 5:11-12). Christ is liberty (II Cor. 3:17). Christ is light (John 1:9).  Those are just a few things that Christ is to and for us.  We should give thanks for Christ and all that He is to and for us.

Is Christ the indescribable gift that Paul is talking about?  Paul's message is clear throughout all his epistles. Paul is preaching "among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ" (Eph. 3:8).  Paul's desire is "to make all men see the fellowship of the mystery" (Eph. 3:9), "which is Christ in you the hope of glory" (Col. 1:27).  Make no mistake, the indescribable gift is Christ in you!  Certainly Christ is all those things mentioned above.  For the Spirit rebirthed Christian, Christ is all of those things mentioned above in them!  Christ IN YOU! – is the beginning of finding the indescribable gift.  Letting the Holy Spirit teach you about Christ in you and the message of the Christ-life is the next important step.  As the Holy Spirit reveals Christ in you (Gal. 1:16), Christ will begin to have a greater expression of His love-for-others Spirit in you.  Christ in His fullness will spontaneously come forth and express the Father's will.  Christ will come forth using you and your personality in His expression.  This Christ-life is a shared-life.  You are His body for His expression with your will and choices using the transformed mind – the mind of Christ (I Cor. 2:16).  Christ living spontaneously through you in the Christ-life – this shared-life of Christ in you as you IS the indescribable gift!  Oh, let us greatly give thanks to God for His indescribable gift of the Christ-life Christ in us as us as an expression of His love to and for others!
