CHRIST IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

"Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life' "  (John 8:12).

John clearly declares that all things were made through Christ, and without Him nothing was made that was made (John 1:3). Paul confirms by telling us that by Christ "all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth" (Col. 1:16).  The greatest of all creations are Spirit-birthed sons in a new creation shared-life with Christ – the creator living inside of us as us.  John goes on to tell us that, "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men" (John 1:4).  Are you looking for life?  All genuine life is in Christ.  Are you looking for creativity?  All genuine creativity comes from Christ and His wisdom and knowledge within man.  Are you looking for light or revelation in this world?  Then Christ is the true Light source "which gives light to every man who comes into the world" (John 1:9).

This is why a focus on Christ is important.  Christ is the source and the life.  This is why a focus on Christ crucified is also important (I Cor. 2:2).  Letting the Holy Spirit teach us Christ crucified by revelation, transforms the mind to accept that the old has been put to death by Christ on the cross.  Also, the revelation of Christ crucified, provides the light and discernment for us to make the right choices, and the strength to walk in the shared-life with Christ in us as us. John made it clear that His life IS the light of men (John 1:4). Christ now lives His crucified life in and through us as us.  In His crucified life, there is light for all men.

The scribes and Pharisees accused the woman caught in adultery, and said she was to be stoned according to the law of Moses (John 8:1-5).  After Jesus told them, He who is without sin cast the first stone, and stooped and wrote in the sand, all accusers left the scene being convicted of their conscience (John 6:6-9).  Now alone with the woman, Jesus let her see that there were no more accusers, and stated that He didn't condemn her, but to go and sin no more (John 8:10-11). Later, Jesus saw and told the Pharisees, "I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life" (John 8:12).  Then Christ talks to the Pharisees about light and darkness; about truth and lies; and about God the Father and the devil (John 8:12-55).  Jesus went on to heal one born blind from birth. Jesus declared that this was not because of someone's sin, but to be an illustration that as long as he was in the world, He is the light of the world (John 9:5).

Just before He raised Lazarus, Jesus again referred to recognizing Himself as being "the light of this world" (John 11:9).  Jesus taught that while we see Him as light, believe in Him that we might become sons of light (John 12:36). Jesus also said, "I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness" (John 12:46).  The Spirit birthing is crucial to become sons of light.  We are to live in this shared-life with Christ – the light, living in us as light to others.  Christ in us is the light of the world!  V
